Grapes, grown without artificial chemicals (organic), fermented with native/wild yeasts and bottled for you to enjoy. Some may have a small amount of Sulfite, a natural antioxidant that is a byproduct of fermentation. That should be all you find in your wine!
Most commercial wines are not natural or organic. They contain any number of additional chemicals, additives, colorants, and added sugars! In addition, extra sulfites (up to 350 ppm in the US and up to 250 ppm in Europe) and preservatives are added to US wines so that the wines do not turn bad while shipping or sitting in warehouses where temperature fluctuations are common.
Yes! Surprising right? Wines are often fined (a process that clarifies the wine and removes excess tannins) with animal proteins. Some examples of this are fish bladders (isinglass), egg whites, milk proteins (casein) and gelatin. Even natural and organic wines can go through this process. Make sure you find a company you trust that tests for these additions!
Unless you test them yourself, or buy from a company that guarantees testing of the possible wine additives, you do not know if your wine is natural and organic. Click on our Get Wine link to find a company that guarantees its testing!
